15 blocks. Michigan State hit .093. That’s how you answer a lost first set less than a day after breaking a program record.

No. 1 Nebraska beat No. 25 Michigan State 21 to 25, 25 to 19, 25 to 17, 25 to 12 Saturday in East Lansing to move to 23 and 0, 12 and 0 in the Big Ten. Friday night’s record 53 straight regular season wins was not the high point. It was just the next number.

A wall in East Lansing

For the second night in a row, Nebraska dropped the opening set. The Spartans hit .375 in the first, broke the ninth and final tie at 17 with four straight points and closed it 25 to 21.

Then the block took over. Michigan State hit negative .095 in the second set, .207 in the third and negative .091 in the fourth. Nebraska outblocked the Spartans 15 to 11, outkilled them 52 to 38 and hit .340.

The win clinched the second ever Big Ten Discover Challenge. Nebraska went 5 and 0 in the challenge matches to defend last year’s title.

Ogbechie was perfect

Manaia Ogbechie put down 11 kills on 14 swings without an error, a .786 clip, and added a team high eight blocks. She’s the first Husker since 2024 with at least 11 kills and eight stuffs in a match.

Trailing 18 to 17 in the second set, she had a hand in four straight Husker points with three kills and a solo block. Teraya Sigler then served the last four points of the set.

Andi Jackson had 12 kills on .360 with six blocks. Harper Murray added 12 kills, two blocks and three digs.

Bergen Reilly ran it with 45 assists and chipped in a career high six blocks, five digs, three aces and two kills. Olivia Mauch led the defense with 12 digs.

Michigan State’s top hitter was Alanna Bankston with 12 kills, but on .167. Zora Hardison added eight.

The bench closed it

Ryan Hunter matched her career high with seven kills on seven swings. Perfect. She brought up set point in the third and then ended it.

The fourth was a runaway. Campbell Flynn’s service run made it 8 to 4, Sigler served four straight in a 5 to 0 run for 14 to 6, and the Spartans managed six kills in the set. Skyler Pierce came off the bench for four of Nebraska’s final six points, three kills and then the match ending ace.

That’s a 23 and 0 start for the ninth time in program history. The road and neutral streak is now 25 straight, 11th all time in NCAA history and the longest in the country since Nebraska’s own 26 in 2002 and 2003 (yes, the Huskers are chasing themselves again!).
