I'm Denny Paulsen. I've been covering Nebraska athletics as credentialed media for four years. I was a Husker fan for a lot longer than that.

Born and raised in Omaha. Not a casual fan — the kind who was out in the intersection at 72nd and Dodge with thousands of other people the night Nebraska won the 1994 national championship. I have been to the games and the bowl games, and I have the collectibles from across those decades to prove where the time went.

The credential came later. Four seasons of it now, with a press pass and a seat on the sideline — which is how I ended up interviewingNdamukong Suh the night he went into theNebraska Athletics Hall of Fame, in a 2024 class that ran across six sports.

What this site is

Independent Nebraska coverage — football first, volleyball right behind it, and whatever else is worth writing about across Husker athletics. Schedules and rosters that stay current, articles when there is something to say, and no filler in between.

It is written for people who already care. That is the whole audience.

The disclosures

The Blackshirts is not affiliated with the University of Nebraska, is not endorsed by it, and does not speak for it. It is an independent fan site.

Some links on this site — the gear pages in particular — are affiliate links, which means I may earn a commission if you buy something. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change what gets written.
