Thirty Kills, Fourteen Blocks: Andi Jackson Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Husker fans, Andi Jackson just had the best week in the Big Ten, and she did it from the middle of the Nebraska volleyball net.

Andi Jackson was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday, the conference office announced, after 30 kills and 14 blocks in three matches. It’s the second of her career, and Nebraska’s second this season after Manaia Ogbechie earned it on Sept. 14.

The week

Jackson led the top-ranked Huskers to a 3-0 week against Missouri, Rutgers and Ohio State. She hit .578 on 45 swings, which works out to 3.33 kills and 1.56 blocks a set.

The defense around her held opponents to a .048 hitting percentage. Yes, for the whole week.

• Missouri, Wednesday: 10 kills without an error on 15 swings, and six blocks to match her season high. Read the Missouri recap.
• Rutgers, Friday: a season-high 14 kills on .632 hitting, plus four blocks. How Nebraska held off Rutgers.
• Ohio State, Saturday: six kills and four blocks in another sweep.

Two different Nebraska middles have won this award in the first month. Nebraska is 13-0, and none of it has come in a Big Ten road gym. Thursday at Penn State is the first road test for this front line.
