Fourteen and Counting: Bergen Reilly Is Big Ten Setter of the Week Again

Husker fans, Bergen Reilly is making this look routine — and it absolutely is not.

Bergen Reilly was named Big Ten Setter of the Week on Monday after running Nebraska through UNLV and No. 2 Texas in Las Vegas without dropping a set. She left the Players Era Showcase with the Most Valuable Player trophy, too.

Number 14 of her career. Fourteen!

The weekend

She set the Huskers to a .315 hitting percentage across the two matches.

Against UNLV, a double-double — 32 assists and 10 digs — plus five kills, three blocks and a service ace. Against Texas, 30 assists, five digs, two kills, two aces and a block.

But here is the sequence that actually won a match.

Nebraska trailed Texas 8-5 in the first set. Reilly went back to serve. Ten straight points.

Ten. Against the second-best team in the country.

Fourteen is a lot

Reilly won Big Ten Player of the Year last season. Want to know how rare that is around here? Nebraska has produced exactly two in the history of the conference — Reilly, and Kelsey Robinson in 2013.

She was also the first setter from any school to take it since Minnesota’s Samantha Seliger-Swenson in 2018.

And Setter of the Year? Third year running. Only Wisconsin’s Sydney Hilley has ever managed that (2019 through 2021).

Wednesday, she goes home

Nebraska is at South Dakota State on Wednesday night in Brookings.

Reilly grew up in Sioux Falls — about an hour down the road — and played her high school volleyball at O’Gorman.

Husker fans, she spent one weekend sweeping the No. 2 team in the country and collecting a trophy for it. Wednesday she gets to do all that in front of the people who watched her learn the game. Enjoy this one.
