The Wrigley Do-Over Lasted Three Sets: Nebraska Sweeps Missouri to Finish 11-0

Husker fans, the match Chicago’s weather took away came back Wednesday night, and it lasted three sets.

No. 1 Nebraska swept Missouri 25-10, 25-17, 25-14 in front of 10,497 at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. That closes non-conference play at 11-0.

This was the makeup of the match suspended at Wrigley Field on Sept. 6. By agreement between the two schools it started over at 0-0 rather than picking up where it stopped. Nebraska used the fresh start well.

Andi Jackson did not miss

Andi Jackson had 10 kills on 15 swings with zero errors, a .667 night, and added six blocks of Nebraska’s eight. She ended the first set with a solo block and closed the second with a kill.

Harper Murray also had 10, her third straight match in double figures, and served the run that broke the opening set. Virginia Adriano added a season-high nine kills, Manaia Ogbechie seven.

Behind them, Laney Choboy led the match with 11 digs, and Olivia Mauch had 10 for the eighth consecutive match.

The runs

Nebraska scored in bunches all night. Five separate runs of five points or more.

• Set 1: tied 3-3, then an 8-0 run with Murray serving to make it 11-3. Missouri got within 14-7. Nebraska answered with five straight to lead 19-7 and won it 25-10.
• Set 2: the closest Missouri came all night. A Kimani Johnson kill made it 12-10, and it was 16-13 before a 5-0 run put Nebraska up 21-13.
• Set 3: Missouri led 5-3. Skyler Pierce tied it at 8-8, Nebraska took 10 of the next 12 to lead 18-10, and after the Tigers got back within 19-14 the Huskers finished on a 6-0 run.

The numbers behind the sweep

Nebraska hit .380 for the match and held Missouri (7-5) to .020, its season low.

The Huskers hit .448 in the first set and .400 in the third. That’s 12 and 13 sets over .400 through 11 matches this season.
