Nebraska Football: Andrew Marshall Added to Bednarik Award Watch List

Twenty seven targets. Eight catches allowed. Now Andrew Marshall is on the Bednarik Award watch list.
Nebraska cornerback Andrew Marshall was one of five defenders added to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, Nebraska announced Wednesday. The Bednarik goes to the outstanding defensive player in the country each year.
The honors keep stacking
A week ago it was first-team mid-season All-American from both On3 and Sports Illustrated. Now it’s the Bednarik list. Read how Marshall, Justin Evans and Owen Chambliss all landed mid-season All-America honors.
Pro Football Network’s Impact Rankings have him as the No. 1 cornerback in the country.
Quarterbacks quit testing him
According to Pro Football Focus, Marshall has allowed just eight catches on 27 targets through seven games. The 6-foot, 195-pound senior from Eastvale, Calif., has started all seven with 21 tackles, four pass breakups and an interception.
Fewer throws hasn’t meant a quiet day. He’s had four or more tackles three times this season, including each of the last two weeks.
The back end of a top 20 defense
The Blackshirts head into Washington ranked:
- 9th nationally in total defense at 271.3 yards per game
- 14th in turnover margin at plus .86
- 14th in scoring defense at 15.4 points per game
Marshall has started all 20 games since he got to Lincoln before the 2025 season. Last year he was honorable mention All-Big Ten with 45 tackles, four tackles for loss, four pass breakups and an interception.
Honorable mention a year ago. National award watch list now.
